Inspirit Tattoo School…
is a 200-hour comprehensive course that teaches aspiring tattoo artists the techniques and deep philosophy behind the art of tattooing. Towards the end of the course we allow the students to apply their knowledge through public clinic. Part of the tattoo care kit that we use is the Tegaderm dressing.
Tegaderm is a transparent film dressing that can be used to protect a new tattoo while it heals. To use it, follow these steps:
- Clean the tattooed area with soap and water, and pat it dry with a clean towel.
- Cut a piece of Tegaderm to fit over the tattoo, leaving a little extra around the edges.
- Peel the backing off the Tegaderm, and carefully apply it to the tattooed area, smoothing it down to remove any air bubbles.
- Leave the Tegaderm in place up to 4-5 days.
- Showering with the dressing is okay, but refrain from getting it submerged in water such as a pool.
- After 4-5 days of keeping the dressing on, gently peel the Tegaderm off and the tattoo should be healed.
- If the tattoo needs additional healing or you have any concerns about the healing process, please contact your tattoo artist.
Some additional tips for using Tegaderm on a tattoo include:
- Avoid using lotions or creams on the tattooed area while the Tegaderm is in place, as these can cause the dressing to loosen or slip off.
- If the tattooed area is red, swollen, or painful, contact your healthcare provider for advice.
- If the Tegaderm becomes loose or falls off, replace it with a new piece as soon as possible to protect the tattoo.
